“The best way to manage time is to see it as a gift wrapped in grace presented to us with each sunrise. And yet all the time given is still a brief moment in a much larger story. Therefore the brevity of life should serve as a motivator to use time well – not because tomorrow we may die, but because tomorrow, we may live.” – An excerpt from

Brent Crowe is the vice president of Student Leadership University and challenges young people to use their time with purpose regardless of where God calls them. In his book, Brent describes two followers of Jesus – Matthias and Justus. Both are counted as disciples in the book of Acts, but neither is well known by Christians today.

Brent found he could relate to Matthias and Justice as ordinary men, called by God and used for His purposes. Many people today don’t know their names, but they were still used in the larger kingdom story. Whether or not we’re well-known by the world, our time is still being used for it.

“We just [hold] up on a pedestal this notion of rock star leaders and that’s who we should aspire to be.”

We don’t need to have a certain testimony or a large platform to be useful for God. In fact, sometimes notoriety hurts more often than it helps.

“I don’t think God created us for fame. I think the Bible is pretty clear that there is but one who is famous and His name is Jesus.”

We need to be careful not to elevate followers of Jesus above Jesus Himself. We may admire the people who have a large platform, thousands of Twitter followers and people clamoring for their attention. However, just as important are those who wake up each morning and choose to pray and seek God regardless of who’s watching. Both are followers of Jesus, and both are having eternal impact.

“Those of us who are the lesser-known individuals in our culture can still make a pretty big splash for the kingdom.”

Stay faithful, stay humble, and use each moment with purpose and intention. The world may not know your name but God does, and He delights in you.
