Peace. Isn’t that one of the most beautiful words? It seems to elude us most days and flee in many seasons. But what if we chased after it? What if we caught it, clutched it to our hearts, and allowed its power to overtake us?

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

As my husband and I drove away from looking at our first potential home in Minnesota a few weeks ago, the logic of the world told me we were going to be miserable. The first place we looked at needed a lot of tender loving care, to put it nicely. I could make it work, but my heart dropped at the thought of leaving an apartment in Colorado that I love for this.

Logic whispered in my ear, there is no way you are going to fly home in two days knowing what your home will be. Even if you do, there is no way you are going to be excited about it. We had to apply for a home on just one income…decent places are hard enough to find as it is.

We had some time to kill before our next appointment, so we drove around and made a couple stops. My face, once smiling and bubbling with laughter, now wore a cautious smile under stoney eyes as I tried to be strong for my husband. I had a battle raging within me.

God has done so much for us…he has to have this piece of the puzzle figured out too, right? I felt God saying  trust me. You live in my economy and according to my rules. Do not worry about where you will live. Don’t you realize that I know this is something you need?

I had a choice. I swallowed my panic, and threw myself into the peace he was offering me.

We now have a lease signed for that second place we looked at. It’s a mile from Luke’s job, a mile and a half from a huge lake, and in an adorable small town. Better yet, I can’t wait to get there.

Logic tells us that peace is impossible. How can a couple be excited about their new job opportunities when they have no idea where health insurance is going to come from? By praying about everything, telling God what they need, and knowing he will take care of them.

How can a woman, who’s just found out she’s going to have a baby, delight in every detail of the process despite complications with the last pregnancy? By praying about everything, telling God what she needs, and knowing he will take care of her.

Logic is how we would predict the outcome. Logic is the only conclusion we can see. But, thankfully, God transcends all our human knowledge and logic. As we trust him, we experience peace.

I think peace is always available to us. If you feel it, embrace it. Swallow your panic and fear, and choose it. Honestly, I don’t think it’s peace that eludes and flees us, I think it’s you and I that elude and flee the presence of peace.
