Do you struggle to find real intimacy with God? This week on Live the Promise, several of our guests shared ways we can pursue true intimacy with God.

Scripture

Bible Scholar Ron Rhodes says that one of the best ways we can enjoy intimacy with God is to read the very Words of Him in Scripture. He says that the more we learn Scripture, the more we build up a reservoir of verses in our mind that the Holy Spirit can use in our lives.

God’s opinion

Steve Arterburn, author of  , says that we can lose intimacy with God when we let the opinions of other people matter more to us than the opinions of God. Even though it’s tempting to care more about what other people think of us, deep intimacy and fellowship with Christ will satisfy us more in the long run than striving after the fleeting admiration of others.

Circumstances

Robin Bertram, author of  , says that when we try to find joy in our circumstances instead of God’s presence, we are simultaneously forfeiting our intimacy with God. Our Heavenly Father won’t force intimacy upon us, He wants us to turn to Him and He will patiently wait for us to turn our hearts towards Him.

View of life

According to John Dickerson, author of  , we can pull the rug out from under anxiety when we take the long view of life. We can focus on the fact that no matter how grave our present circumstances are, they will end. Our hope is not in the present, our hope is in a future glory with Jesus Christ. With this mindset, our heart is far more open to intimacy with God.
