It has happened to all of us at some point.  You’re running late when you look up and see those bright orange signs: “Construction ahead.”

Its amazing how frustrating those little orange cones can be.  I find myself quickly irritated and filled with stress.  “Don’t they know I need to use this road?”  “How long is this going to take?”  “Are they even actually doing anything?”  I hope I’m not alone in those thoughts.

One day I was stopped in a construction zone; the third in my 10 minute drive.  I found myself filled with stress and fed up.  But then it hit me.  I realized I’m a lot like those roads. I am not perfect.  I’m in constant need of “fixing” and “smoothing.”  I am always under construction.

God’s word reminds us that we have not reached completion.  Paul writes in Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” He is continuously working on us.  Molding us, shaping us, making us better.

Just like the roads need maintenance and continual improvement, so does my soul.  I’m a work in progress.

Now when I see those bright orange signs I am reminded of how blessed I am that God hasn’t given up on me.  That I’m a work in progress.  He continues to grow, improve and strengthen me. There will be bumps in the road but He will smooth them, He will fix them, He will continue the good work he began.
