Are you willing to go wherever God sends you? What happens when we make ourselves available to God?

Listen to Susie’s conversation with Matthew and Caroline Barnett of The Dream Center in Los Angeles.

Matthew and Caroline share that the Dream Center was one of God’s “great change of plans” in Matthew’s own life. At age 20 he was ready to plant a church and preach, but God had other plans. One night Matthew was walking around his neighborhood when God told him, “I want you to die to your 5-year dream” and start living for God’s purpose.

Caroline shares her own passion for serving others and walking in faith. When we get involved and serve those who are near to the heart of God, something in us heals. “It renews my faith” to pray for others, to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a broken and hurting world.

What happens when we don’t know our purpose? Matthew says, look at what you’re passionate about. What moves your heart? What injustice do you ache to see changed? Matthew says, no matter what happens, keep speaking your dream. God respects the “tenacity of the dreamer!” If God’s put it into your heart, He’ll bring it to pass.

What gets in the way of our call? Matthew and Caroline let us in on two key dangers:

  • Fear
  • Pride

When you struggle with feeling lost, take Caroline’s advice. “Don’t overcomplicate what it means to be a miracle in someone else’s life.” Start small – a simple smile and a greeting can bless another person. Bringing groceries to a family in need can bless them. Some may misinterpret your actions or reject your help at first, but serving in Jesus’ Name is our call regardless of the response.
