In baseball, hitting a homerun is one of the best parts of the game. But to be at the best in life, you also need to hit a home run. Pastor Kevin Myers spent years in a struggling church plant ‘striking out’ time and again, until he learned a pattern for living that brought about life change. Using a baseball diamond as an analogy, Pastor Myers shows us the path to being all that God wants us to be.

Kevin describes his church planting mission in Georgia as a “slow start.” By year three of the church plant, Kevin and his wife were bankrupt and he needed to step back and reflect on his strategy. They learned difficult lessons on leadership which Kevin shares with us. Listen as he unpacks:

  • The biblical definition of success
  • Why God chooses to build in us before He builds through us
  • What is means to borrow someone else’s faith when we’re discouraged
  • How to overcome the ‘strikes’ against you from your early life
  • The importance of ‘strategic solutions’
  • How to approach life with a ‘team’ mentality
  • The four areas to ‘win’ in life, which Kevin lays out as a baseball diamond:
    • Connecting with God
    • Character
    • Community
    • Competence

Kevin says, use caution. It’s funny in little league when a child runs the bases backwards, but it doesn’t work in the “league of life.” We start at home plate, and connect with God. From there, we have a strong foundation to hit every other base. If we run the bases backwards, we tend to use people rather than love and serve them. He also says, don’t get ahead of yourself and try to speed up the process of growth and development in your life – God’s process has always been plow, plant, harvest. Kevin’s book is Homerun: Learn God’s Game Plan For Life And Leadership.
