Wake up joyful. Go to church. Love your spouse. Tithe every week. Don’t swear.

Sometimes we get so tied up in to-do lists and routines that we forget what it means to be a Christian in the first place. On this edition of Live the Promise Susie’s guest is Pastor Stovall Weems, of Celebration Church, helps us boil down the Christian life into one simple yet powerful phrase – “seek first the kingdom of God.”

Stovall has spent his adult life unpacking Matthew 6:33 and meditating on what it means to seek God first and allow other things to fall into their proper places. He says the Christian life is not a matter of need but of order – when we follow the divine order as laid out in this verse, things become clearer in our lives, including the voice of God.

Stovall and Susie unpack three game changing truths in the gospel :

– God has a way for our life

– We don’t have to carry the weight of our life alone

– God’s way is better

When we come to Christ and become born-again, there are three things God promises us – a new family, a new life, and a new freedom. For Stovall, this was deeply personal when he first became a Christian. “I wanted to know Jesus and I wanted the Bible to work for my life.” God gave him, and all of us, a freedom to live for Him rather than for sin. Stovall’s book is The God-First Life.
