This week on Live the Promise, several of our guests discussed several important questions Christians are wrestling with.

Why don’t we pray the Lord’s Prayer anymore?

According to Dr. Mark Rutland, it seems as though the Lord’s Prayer has been relegated to a prayer you pray only if you can’t think of something better to say. However, Dr. Mark says that mindset is faulty because Jesus taught us to pray using the words of the Lord’s Prayer. Dr. Rutland says it’s time for the Lord’s Prayer to make a major comeback in our lives.

What does it mean to live from the heart Jesus gave you instead of living from our hurts?

Dr. Jim Wilder says that when we live from our hurts, we are fixated on living life according to what we need to avoid or what we are afraid of. However, living from our heart means that we consistently bring God’s perspective to bear on our current circumstances. Instead of reacting out of fear, we respond in faith.

Is it possible to be spiritually mature, while remaining emotionally immature?

Peter Scazzero says that it’s not. However, we often get caught in the trap of believing it is. Peter was an accomplished pastor of a growing church, on the outside he seemed to have everything going for him. However, behind the scenes, in his heart, and in his home, things were falling apart. While he appeared spiritually mature on the outside, he was wrestling with extreme emotionally immaturity that threatened his future. Fortunately, through God’s grace and the intervention of his wife, Peter was able to come to grips with his emotionally immaturity and take concrete steps to become more mature.

What does it really mean to worship?

According to Jeff Kinley, worship is more than just singing praise songs with raised hands. Worship requires passion and even desperation. Just like a human being becomes desperate when deprived of air, Jeff says all Christians ought to become desperate for God when we go too long without Him. True worship comes from a heart that acknowledges it’s desperate need for God’s saving grace.
