The Voice of the Martyrs presents stories to challenge and encourage listeners in their own walk of faith.
Richard Wurmbrand dared to proclaim his loyalty to Christ rather than bow to a government hostile to the gospel. For this, he spent 14 years in prison, two of those years alone in solitary cell. As he sat alone, he dreamed of a mission that would one day help Christians like him.
Hosted by Todd Nettleton, The Voice of the Martyrs presents stories to challenge and encourage listeners in their own walk of faith, while calling them to pray and advocate for the persecuted church around the world. It also provides listeners with opportunities for supporting and encouraging these brothers and sisters in Christ.
The Voice of the Martyrs is a non-profit, inter-denominational Christian organization. Its mission is “to serve persecuted Christians worldwide, offering practical and spiritual assistance and leading other members of Christ into fellowship with them.” The Voice of the Martyrs founder Pastor Richard Wurmbrand and his wife, Sabina, were born in Romania. Both Jewish, they came to faith in Christ in 1938. During World War II, they preached together in bomb shelters and rescued Jewish children out of the ghettos of Bucharest. After the war, they continued their evangelism efforts, boldly sharing Christ and proclaiming their allegiance to God and their opposition to the new Communist regime in Romania. Soon after, Richard and then Sabrina were imprisoned for their faith, but they miraculously survived and were later ransomed out of Romania, along with their son, Mihai. They came to the United States in 1966. Pastor Wurmbrand established The Voice of the Marytrs in 1967 and gave the rest of his life to this ministry that is needed as much now as it was then.
The Voice of the Martyrs also serves to educate individuals and governments about Christian persecution worldwide. Their PrisonerAlert program produces a newsletter, encourages advocacy, and provides individuals with the opportunity to personally pray for and write to prisoners around the world.
