What’s holding you back from achieving the wellness you desire? Many of us want to be well, but we just can’t seem to get there.

Certified fitness professional Alisa Keeton says it’s important to remember the pursuit of wellness doesn’t start with us. It starts with God and understanding who we are in light of Him.

“We have to slow down. We have to know where we are to know where we are going to go. First, we have to drop the pin on who we are, who God is, and who He has created us to be in relationship to Him.”

Too often we focus on our own desire for our lives. However, Alisa says it’s not about that.

“We need to focus on His desire, His design, and His purpose. This is a Him story. It’s from that place that we can be well. We have to seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these other things will work themselves out. Let’s give heed to His Word ”

A key to being well is admitting that we can’t go it alone and surrendering ourselves to God.

“You have to surrender to God. If you could do it by yourself, you would have done it already. If I could have done this by now, I would have. So there must be a higher Truth than my own little ‘t’ truth.”

Alisa says that Jesus’s last words from the cross set the standard for how we are to are to pursue and achieve wellness in this life.

“As Luke records it, Jesus lets out a heavy sigh and says, ‘Into your hands Father I commit my spirit.’ Those are the last words of Jesus ever recorded. I always think that if that’s the last thing Jesus said before He died, then that’s what I pick up. If that’s his last exhale, it has to be my first inhale. I commit my life to you, I surrender this battle to you.”
