Do you long for deeper intimacy with God but don’t know where to even begin?

Dr. Robert Morgan says one of the best ways we can deepen intimacy with God is by reclaiming the art of Biblical meditation.

He says that many people get scared by the word “meditation” because for many, it conjures up images of eastern mysticism.

However, he says that God instituted the concept of meditation.

The type of meditation propagated by eastern mysticism is focused on emptying the mind, as if you were putting your mind into neutral.

Even as a college freshman, Robert knew that emptying your mind was antithetical to the very definition of meditation.

“To meditate means that we fill our minds and ponder things, not that we try to empty them.”

The following year, Robert transferred schools and met a group of Christians who began teaching him about Biblical meditation.

“Their view of meditation was totally different. Instead of emptying our mind, we were to let the Word of God dwell in us richly. We were to focus our minds on Scripture, and not only Scripture, but on the God of Scripture, we are to fix our minds on Him.”

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:2

“We are transformed by the renewing of our minds. so I began saying instead of transcendental meditation, where we empty our minds, I want transformational meditation. I want to meditate on the Scripture in a way that transforms my personality through the power of the Holy Spirit. When people push back against me talking about meditation, I say, meditation is God’s idea, he thought of it before the gurus did. It doesn’t come from Hinduism, it comes from Scripture. It isn’t new age, it is eternal in the heavens. It is not a matter of emptying our minds, it’s a matter of meditating on the Scripture.”
