What are some of the most common myths about the Word of God that often fly under the radar, even in Christianity?

This week on Live the Promise, several of our guests helped us debunk four myths about the Word of God that continue to plague the Christian faith.

Myth 1  God’s Word has no scientific or physical evidence to back it up.

J. Warner Wallace explains that, contrary to popular belief, there is plenty of scientific, archeological, and circumstantial evidence to prove the Word of God is accurate. Myth 2 – God’s Word condemns.

When we read Scripture, we often feel condemned by the passages we read telling us that we fall short. However, Bible scholar Ron Rhodes says that there’s a difference between condemnation, which is always from Satan, and conviction, which is from the Holy Spirit. Ron equates conviction with a godly sorrow that can lead us to repentance. Whereas, condemnation is a sense of darkness and unbearable shame.  Ron says the easiest way to tell if you’re experiencing conviction or condemnation is to see if the weight remains after you confessed it to God. If it does, Ron says that Satan is most certainly working on you.

Myth 3 – God’s Word teaches that our lives should be easy.

Often, we fall into believing the myth that if we are in God’s will, our life will be easy and prosperous. However, Lina Abujamra says that life is full of things that aren’t easy, including loving when it’s not convenient, and being obedient to God in the small things that don’t garner much recognition. Sometimes when life is difficult it is a direct result of being in the center of God’s will. Lina is the author of  .

Myth 4 –  We have to earn favor with God through our works.

Perhaps one of the most controversial aspects of the Christian faith is how faith and works relate to each other in regard to salvation and our relationship with God. Do our works earn us anything? Or does God’s grace cover everything? Bill Giovannetti sets the record straight and helps us understand how we can avoid the infection of legalism and bask in the warmth and glow of God’s beautiful gift of grace. Bill is the author of  .
