God the Father Created All Things in Heaven and Earth
There are many people who wonder if Jesus always existed or if He was created, and if it was God the Father or Jesus who created the World in John 1:3:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” (John 1:1-3 NKJ).
The answers to these questions can be found in the Word of God using reason and logic!
Here in this passage we recognize Jesus as the Word of God. The English word “Word” is translated from the ancient Greek word G3056 logos, which means “reasoning (the mental faculty),” from which we get the English word “logic,” which Webster’s Student Dictionary (1959) defines as “1. The science that deals with the rules and tests of sound thinking and reasonable proof; 2. Reasoning; especially sound reasoning.”
So here, Jesus could more correctly be called “the logic and sound reasoning of God” because He was sent to teach us the truth of God.
In Isaiah 1:18, God the Father says: “‘Come now, and let us reason together,’ Says the LORD.”
And in John 17:17 (NKJV) Jesus praying to God the Father teaches that God’s Word is truth: “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”
Because God’s Word is truth we can use logic and reason to discover great truths:
Consider Colossians 1:16-22:
“For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. 19 For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell,
20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. 21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled 22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight”
Using reason and logic the word “Him” in the phrase “For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth” must be referring to God the Father. Certainly, neither God the Son nor God the Holy Spirit created God the Father. So only God the Father could have created God the Son and God the Holy Spirit because they are the “all things” in the Trinity that are not God the Father. This means that the Son of God and the Holy Spirit were created by the God the Father. This also means that God the Father created all things on earth including visible (humans and animals, etc.) and invisible (Satan and his demons).
The words “He” and “Him” in the passage “All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence” refer to Jesus because He was chosen by the Father to be King over everything in heaven and on earth.
In the phrase “For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell,
20 and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him” the words “Him” are referring to Jesus and the word “Himself” is referring to the Father because Jesus is reconciling fallen man to the Father as explained in the following passage:
“Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).
Even the Apostles Creed confirms that it was God the Father who created everything in heaven and on earth:
The Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ,
His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.
And so, we can now correctly interpret John 1:1-5:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
The phrase “All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made” is referring to God the Father who made the world through Jesus and for Jesus!
God did not give us this incredible mind capable of reasoning and understanding and intend for us to forego its use!
