This week on Live The Promise, several of our guests touched on different aspects of what it means to detoxify our body, mind, and spirit.

Science behind detoxification

Dr. Troy Spurrill of the Synapse Center for Health and Healing shared some of the science behind detoxification. He explained that not only do we need to detoxify our bodies from free radicals and toxins that threaten us, we are also called to eliminate spiritual and emotional toxins that can threaten us as well.

Detoxing from the world’s influence

Thann Bennett joined the program and he shared more about what it means to detoxing from the influence of the world. While it’s important to limit the worlds influence on our lives, Thann says we are still called to be salt and light in the world for Christ. He reminds us that we are called to be peculiar and and in order to be peculiar, there must be a contrast between our lives and the way the world lives. However, if we withdraw from the world, we limit our ability to be used by God to make an impact on those around us.

Detoxing from negativity

Lisa Harper joined the program and unpacked the importance of detoxing from negativity and things that drag us down. She dispels the myth that we can’t be happy and holy at the same time. When we allow negative emotional toxins to thrive in our system, we hinder our happiness in God. Consequently we hinder the ability for God’s love to overflow from our hearts into the hearts of those around us.

Detoxing from our desire for comfort

Finally, Erin Straza joined us to share why she thinks it’s time for us to detox from our dependence and desire for comfort. She explained that while comfort is not bad, it cannot be the main thing for which we strive in life. She says it’s important to reevaluate our notion of what it means to be comfortable. She says that our comfort should not end with us. We are called to steward the gifts we are given to maximize the comfort of others.
