“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

While we know we’re supposed to pray, often living that out in practice can be a hard to form habit. Adam Weber explains how God changed his heart towards prayer,

“As a brand new Christian, I think the best way I would describe my prayer life was sporadic. Just kind of here and there. When I would randomly think about God I would throw up a Lord, thank you.

However, when he started college, things started to change. Adam started to have a strong desire to follow Christ with his whole heart, and deep down, he knew that this meant investing more time in prayer.

“Right in the beginning of my freshman year, I really felt God challenging me, are you willing to be all in Adam? Are you willing to follow me with your whole heart and not just a part of yourself?”

“I knew that talking with the Lord more often, on a more consistent basis would be a huge part of my journey.”

God put in Adam a desire and hunger to be in closer conversation and relationship with him.

“I began to long to speak with God more consistently. Anything that would remind me of the Lord, I would take a quick moment to acknowledge God. Lord, I just want you to be a part of my day, I want to trust you more today. When I woke up I’d pray, when I would walk to school I would pray, when I was eating breakfast or lunch I would pray.”

Often, he would leave notes for himself that would remind him to pray.

“Whether it was a short Bible verse in my back pocket, or I’d put something on my nightstand in my dorm room just to quickly remind myself to pray.”

Over time, Adam says that what started out as intentional and difficult slowly but surely became more and more natural.

“I always think that something amazing has happened when prayer goes from one thing on our to-do list to the most important thing on our list. All of the sudden it becomes as natural as breathing. I can’t just breathe once a week or for an hour a day, I need to breathe throughout the day.”
