What calling does God have on my life?

Many of us find ourselves asking this or a similar question. But what if the answer was available to us all? Jo digs into this possibility with the President of Fuller Theological Seminary, Mark Labberton.

Mark shares biblical wisdom and insight from his recent book  . We find hope, encouragement and purpose together – on this latest episode of Connecting Faith. Here’s where our conversation leads:

Our calling is less about individual lives and more about God’s collective call to his people.

Mark believes we have a primary call on our lives, to live as followers of and believers in Jesus. We’re also called to use our gifts and talents in a way that honors our creator.

In the earthly life of Jesus we’ve been given a blueprint of what it looks like to successfully live out a calling. So what does it teach us?

We’re called to live with faithfulness and authenticity. When we do so, our actions and our words become mutually reinforcing.

“Are we people who are becoming more and more like Jesus?” – Mark

So how can we learn to become better representatives of Jesus? Can you love those who aren’t like you? Can you love even those who are your enemies? Mark believes we need to develop an eagerness to really hear out people who are different than we are.

Mark offers a tip for implementing this message in our daily life. He suggests that, as we begin our day and prepare to head to work, we ask ourselves, “What is my main calling?”. Our calling doesn’t consist of our task list. It’s who we are and how we live our lives. It’s becoming more like Jesus.
