Melissa Huray knew at a young age that she didn’t feel right with normal life – so much so that she suffered from panic attacks. At 15 she found alcohol and she believed she’d found her cure. Her addiction spun her out of control very quickly and she was blacking out habitually as a teen. Melissa describes her drinking as a “powerful euphoria,” and it was this feeling that kept her living a life of secrets in lies.

Eventually, Melissa’s life started to turn around as she was hired at a TV station, building her relationship with her daughter, and getting involved in her faith and at her church. A relapse sent her into a cycle of sobriety and relapse, all the while trying to maintain her faith and career. In her words, she felt like she was going insane.

One final bender led Melissa to, as she says, to the foot of the cross and it was there she completely surrendered her addiction. God blessed Melissa with a husband and today she’s now 12 years sober and has 7 years of experience with helping others caught in addiction through Nystrom and Associates. She’s also a huge proponent for exercise and the role it plays in recovery.
