It’s a topic that has stirred up conversation for centuries. Who are the seven churches in the book of Revelation? Bible scholar Ron Rhodes returns to address this and other questions on the June edition of Bible Answers.

Here are some of the topics Ron and Susie explore:

“We have to distinguish between what the Bible says about angels and what popular books say about angles. They are ministering spirits but are not like higher guides that walk with us. It’s Christ the shepherd who walks with us as His sheep. The only reason the angels are here watching over us is because He created them to.”

Denominational Differences

A caller asked if Ron might walk through some of the distinctives of each denomination. He gives a brief overview.

Lutherans – a section of the church that believes the presence of Jesus is with, over, and under the elements of communion.

Catholics – a denomination that views communion as being the literal body and blood of Jesus.

Methodists – a denomination that generally follows the teachings of John Wesley.

Presbyterians – believers who are heavily influenced by John Calvin.

America’s absence in Revelation and end-times events

“America is the principle ally of Israel. It’s entirely possible that by the time things start to unravel, America may no longer be an ally of Israel. I believe America may likely weaken in the end times as a result of moral implosion, the rapture of the church, or a terrorist attack, or an EMP [electromagnetic pulse] attack.”

Lessons from the seven churches in Revelation

Ephesus – “Love of God is so critically important. You can’t just have correct doctrine but a body who loves Christ so much that it shows up in how they love other people.”

Pergamum – “I can think of leaders in the church today who deny God is all-powerful and all-knowing. There are Christians who are teaching that Jesus is not the only way but that God manifests [saving] grace in every religion.”
