How do you cultivate honor? Listen as Susie welcomes pastor Nate Ruch of Emmanuel Christian Center to the program. They talk about how courage and integrity in faith are the foundation for a culture of honor.

We explore:

• The power of words in honor.

• What happens when we approach those in our path with humility.

• How to pray for and honor authority you disagree with.

• The importance of seeking to win the individual instead of win the argument.

• How Jesus modeled honor and self-sacrifice in his lifetime.

In Nate’s words,

“When you bring honor to someone or something, it says what you believe about them or about what they represent. The general Roman culture was one where they set up winners and losers. People that won were the ones that got the honor – it was the warriors from Rome who would come back and have all their accolades on display. If you wanted to be somebody that was esteemed, you had to get ahead of everyone else. That’s how you obtained honor. Paul says, that’s not how we do it. [In the kingdom of God] the way you get honor is by going lower… by submission; instead of trying to get over the top of authority it’s coming underneath authority. We think we have the right to choose what we want to submit to and what we don’t. But that’s not really what the Scripture says we should do. God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Most things we disagree with don’t involve us having to perform an act of sin. Ultimately submitting to authority is not conditional; it’s recognizing the earthly authority and that equals recognizing God’s heavenly authority.”
