We live in a world where more equals better. How can we learn to find contentment in God and not material things?

Listen as Susie talks with author and pastor Jeff Manion. We explore the hunger and discontent that drives us to overspend and overeat, and talk about how to refocus on Christ.

Pastor Jeff calls us to enroll in the school of contentment whenever we find ourselves wanting more or different things! Do you want a bigger house, a better-paying job, a spouse who is more engaged? In Jeff’s words, “It’s okay to desire a better job. It’s okay to desire reliable transportation. But don’t desire wholeness in those different circumstances.”

Sometimes it’s good to be discontent in our walk with God, because it drives us to know Him more intimately and repent more quickly. Is yours a holy, or an unholy, discontent?

Listen as Jeff and Susie address:

•  The power of gratitude in squashing discontent
•  The danger in confusing simplicity with contentment
•  The ‘ice cream bowl’ analogy
•  How to avoid the sin of comparison and trust in God’s character to bring you what you need

Jeff also warns us against the sense of entitlement – in his words, entitlement can “massacre” our sense of generosity. When we are owed something, we’re less likely to pass that on to another person. The goal is to remember that everything in our life is a gift, and the only gift that will be constant is our faith in Christ and promise of eternal life.
