This week on Live the Promise, several of our guests shared various ways that prayer connects us to the heart of God.

Does it matter if I pray aloud or internally?

On this month’s edition of Bible Answers, a listener asked if it matter if we pray aloud or internally. Bible Scholar Ron Rhodes says that God hears our prayers if we speak them aloud or we say them internally. The heart behind the prayer is what matters, not necessarily the words we speak. There is a time and place for each type of prayer. For instance, if we’re in a crowded room we might want to pray in our own hearts. However, if we are alone and we have trouble maintaining focus in prayer it can be helpful to speak aloud.

Praying with authority

When God redeems us, we don’t become passive onlookers of life that are detached from suffering and real life. John Eldredge says we become warriors and partners with God in bringing His kingdom to earth. This means that we are to pray with authority, knowing that Jesus Christ intercedes in prayer on our behalf. God invites us to rise up and begin to walk in the authority that we have in Jesus.

Praying with confidence

Liz Curtis Higgs says that as Christians we ought to pray with confidence, knowing that God is listening to us and eager to answer our prayers that align with His will. Even if God does not answer our prayers in our timing, or in the way we had planned, we can be sure that he has our best interest in mind.

Consistency in prayer

Pastor Adam Weber admits that it can be difficult to cultivate a habit of prayer. For years, he struggled to talk to the Lord on a consistent basis, but when he was able to develop the habit, he says it changed his life forever. Anytime something in his day reminded Him of God, he would take a quick moment to acknowledge God’s presence in his life. Adam says he would also leave Bible verses in highly visible places to remind Him to pray as well.
