Supreme court Justice Antonin Gregory Scalia has passed away. Dr. David Aikman shares what made him such an effective defender of the Constitution of the United States.

Scalia is described as an originalist, but what does that mean?

“It meant he was a follower of the intent of the writers of the Constitution who had very specific intentions in formulating the laws of the country and who were not swayed by fashion or social tendencies that were going around them.”

Scalia was focused on maintaining the original intent of the Constitution and not deviating from it no matter what standards culture has adopted.

“You have to go back to the original meaning of the law and look at what the original writers intended and that is the principle of preserving the principles of the Constitution to protect all of us.”

According to Dr. Aikman, we risk losing our rights and privileges as Americans if we begin to push aside the Constitution because of the direction our culture is heading.

“If you start being swayed by fashion, gossip, and preference, you will soon sweep away the whole framework of the structure of our freedom which is a very dangerous thing.”

The government of the United States continues to infringe upon the rights and freedoms of Americans outlined in the Constitution.

“Obama is absolutely intent upon closing loopholes against people owning guns who shouldn’t own guns, but in fact, the likelihood is that the kind of restrictions he wants to impose would make it harder for legitimate gun owners to have weapons of self-defense in their possession.”

As Christians, we should pray that God can provide another Supreme Court Justice who is equally committed to maintaining the constitutional integrity of the United States of America as the Founding Fathers intended.
