The Christian life is one filled with joy, challenge, and adventure. On the Wednesday edition of Live the Promise Owen Strachan, president of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood returns to share his views on the risk-filled life of the Christian.

For some people, coming to Christ means their troubles go away. Owen cautions against that kind of thinking.

“We don’t want Christians to assume that if they’re having a tough time, they’re in an unusual place. We’ve become accustomed in the American Church to thinking that Christianity is supposed to be always wowing us… the reality is that people disappoint us. The church fails to live up to our expectations. Our hope is not grounded in the world but in God alone and God delights in finding a people who will go hard after Him and cry out to Him. The pathway back to Him is not making yourself impressive but hiding in Him.”

Risky faith does not mean perfect faith. Owen urges us to keep it simple but live it with passion.

“In reality, the Lord delights to see simple men and women who love Him and on a daily basis renew their commitment to Him.”

What does risky faith look like?

• Praying for big things.

• Stepping out without fear.

• Giving generously and trusting God to provide.

• Listening to the Lord through His Word and His people and acting on behalf of what He says.

Owen leaves us with these words.

“The Scripture teaches us not a perspective of anxiety but a perspective of trust in an awesome God. God’s awesomeness propels our faithfulness. Because God has claimed us for Himself, we have no need to fear anything in this world.”
