What does it mean to have a spiritual rhythm? Today Susie’s guest is pastor and prolific author Mark Buchanan, associate professor of pastoral theology at Ambrose Seminary. Listen as we unpack the traits and disciplines of a praying life, and Mark helps us build a rhythm into our day for every season of life to gain a Spiritual Rhythm. God calls us to praise and recognize Him regardless of the season we’re in, but here are a few tips Mark offers for connecting with God on mountains and in valleys.

In a valley of winter… “By faith, take hold of this God Who right now feels very distant.” Know that He sees you in the dark.

On a mountaintop of spring… watch for a “sudden renewal of the things of God.”

Remember that each season has certain activities that are helpful, and certain activities that are harmful. In spiritual summer, for example, intimacy with God is right at your fingertips on a daily basis. To use Mark’s words, summer is like “a foretaste of heaven.” Take care in these times to avoid ‘spiritual dehydration’ – keep up your daily time in the Word.

Above all, remember that seasons are necessary for all growth.
