As Christ followers, we have been given a new identity in Christ Jesus. Are you living in that identity?
Kyle Winkler shares how God did a work in his heart to teach him to embrace his new, Christ-given identity.
“I was shrinking back in fear. I struggled with being courageous. I wasn’t bold, I was shy in everything, I was afraid to take risks. All of those things were holding me back from the blessings God had for me.”
“When God told me I have to identify with my new identity in Him, I started to look those things up and that was a shift for me. Identity is the fact of being who you are. However, to identify is to establish who you are. God was calling me to establish who I am based on the fact of who I am.”
God led him to many different Scripture passages to help him solidify his new standing in Christ. He shares two examples.
“So in Christ Jesus you are all Children of God through faith.” Galatians 3:26
“For our sake, He made Him to be sin who knew no sin so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
When we know whose we are, and believe that that our identity comes out of that relationship, then our thought life changes and we begin to live with confidence in our new identity.
“What I had to do was begin to personalize those promises in my own life, to identify with them, to change my ‘I am’ from ‘I am a reject, I am different, I am wrong,’ to ‘I am a Child of God, I am the righteousness of God, I am God’s masterpiece.’”
When we apply these principle to our lives, we can transform our hearts from the inside out and see God as He sees us.
