No one on earth knows when Christ will return; however, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be prepared. This week on Live the Promise, several of our guests brought up different ways we can prepare for the return of Christ.

Be desperate for God.

Pastor Jeff Kinley believes that many people sitting in church pews on Sunday mornings aren’t actually saved; many church-goers are lukewarm. Jeff believes it is time to wake up as individuals and as a church. If we aren’t desperate for God, then that means we don’t realize how much we actually need Him in our lives. We need God more than we need air.

Pray consistently.

According to Pastor Adam Weber, one of the ways we can move from being lukewarm for God to passionate and desperate is by taking prayer seriously. When Adam first became a Christian, he prayed, but he says his prayer life was sporadic at best. One of the things that helped him grow exponentially in his faith was consistent prayer.

Pay attention to what provokes us.

Sharon Garlough Brown says that we can prepare for the return of Christ by paying attention to what provokes us. When we notice a strong emotion rise up within us, instead of trying to stuff it, we can ask God to help us understand why we are reacting the way we are. When we do this, we make space for God to work on our hearts and prepare us for the return of Christ.

Thoughtfully examine what you turn to for comfort.

Where do you turn to for comfort? We all have counterfeit comforts that we turn to in an attempt to find peace. According to Robia Scott, those things actually keep us from the peace, purpose, and passion we desire. We can prepare for Christ’s return if we take time to systematically root out the counterfeit comforts in our life. In that way, we can open our life to influenced more greatly by the Holy Spirit.
