What would you do if you answered the door, and a tall man you’re sure you should know is standing there?  It only takes a minute for you to recognize the smile you’ve seen on a slew of State Farm commercials and probably a few football games, too.  “It’s Aaron…”

I’ve been a Green Bay Packers fan all of my life, but I can honestly say I’ve never been prouder to be a Cheesehead than I am today.  I’ve witnessed great football players and teams compete for championships my entire life, and no team does it with more tradition and style than the Packers.  Names like Lombardi, Lambeau, Starr, Favre, White…and so many more.

But that’s not why I’m proud today.  I’m proud because of one guy.  Aaron Rodgers.

Not because he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game (which he is).  Not because he was responsible for one of the above mentioned Super Bowl Championships (which he was).  It’s because he was responsible for this…

If you didn’t at least shed a small tear…well…I won’t judge you.  I couldn’t help myself.  The look on Annie’s face when she realized it was him was priceless (and not MasterCard priceless, but REALLY priceless).

This whole experience challenged me.  Annie was inspired by her relationship with her twin brother.  Aaron Rodgers was inspired by his relationship to the family.  And now a city and beyond will possibly be inspired.  And it all started with relationship.  Annie and Aaron made quite a team, and I venture to guess that nobody in the neighborhood will soon forget that day.

So, maybe my “It’s Dave” won’t be as powerful or memorable as the quarterback from the Green Bay Packers knocking at the door, but does that excuse me from trying?

Of course not.

God created us for relationship.  So, we should walk across the office, cul-de-sac, church lobby or (dare I say) to the stranger at the grocery store, and be the representative for something (or Someone) we believe in.  Our “It’s ______” may be more powerful than we think.
