What happens when God plants a passion or an idea in your heart, but then nothing seems to happen?
Doug Kauffman is the founder of Hope 360, a ministry that mentors those going through seemingly hopeless situations. A desire to spread hope was on Doug’s heart for a long time before he knew what Hope 360 would look like in action.
“God had planted this in my heart 22 years ago. About three years after the divorce when my life collapsed, and I was waiting for God.”
That was until one night while crying out to the Lord Doug heard God’s message to him,
“He said, take the next step, and right then and there in that moment, the first step came to me.”
Doug realized it wasn’t God he was waiting for, but what had been holding him back all this time.
“I never committed to Him. I was always afraid. I wasn’t bold enough. I was timid in my faith, I thought this was crazy. It was an emotional moment. I got down on my hands and knees on this chair and I’m balling, ‘I am all in.’”
He didn’t know what he was in for or what God would call him to do, but he knew he was in. No longer was he waiting, it was time to take the next step.
“I got up and I wiped my face of the tears. 20 minutes later He gives me this vision [for the ministry] and so I go to my computer and I start typing it out as fast as I can type.”
Doug begins to lay out his God-given vision for his ministry of hope. Eventually, he starts to process how he can finance the venture.
“In that moment, my doorbell rings. It’s Chris, my old roommate from college, the one guy I told about my ministry idea a year before.”
Chris handed Doug a $500 dollar check and explains that he wanted to support his new ministry.
Doug Kauffman experienced devastation when he underwent foreclosure, bankruptcy and divorce. Hope 360 commenced out of his journey to bring hope to people. Through the mentoring of Hope 360 Storytellers, people who feel they are in incurable situations are given hope. Doug is the President and Founder of Hope 360.
