Do you need to re-evaluate your schedule? Maybe your priorities have overtaken your calendar and you have a hard time saying ‘no’ to things. Listen as Susie talks with Rozanne Frazee about her book, Real Simplicity. Rozanne challenges us to take a step back, and refocus our time and energy on the most important things.

Frantic, not fast-paced. Shallow. That’s how Rozanne describes our culture. The American mindset is built on consuming, building, and striving. How can the Church thrive in these conditions? Rozanne shares her own struggles with having a busy schedule in her family, losing intimacy with her husband, and resorting to fast-food dinners to keep up with her children’s extra-curricular schedule. She finally woke up one morning determined to change the trajectory of the Frazee family. She and her husband Randy, senior pastor of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, scaled back the family activities and reconnected as a family. She touches on a number of points for listeners when doing this in their own lives:

  • Guard dinnertime – studies show that families that have dinner together five nights a week drastically lowers a teen’s risk of drinking, using drugs, or becoming involved in a gang.
  • Have each child pick one extra-curricular activity at a time
  • Keep your evenings open and free of job-related meetings
  • Guard your sleep – work while it’s day, but set aside time for rest and recharging
  • Learn to say ‘no’ – as Susie says, the need doesn’t always dictate the call

Part of stewarding God’s gift of our time and our health is to use what He’s giving us to live out His call on our life. We won’t have time to serve on several church committees and arrange every baby shower – and that’s okay! Jesus did not heal every person who needed it. He served while He was able, He ministered to those He came across, and at night He withdrew to pray and reconnect with God. Let us follow His example.
