Are you wanting to grow your relationship with the Lord? According to Elyse Fitzpatrick, in a lot of ways, our relationship with the Lord is like our other relationships in life.
“Think about it this way, when I pour into my relationship with my husband. It’s not like I’m doing that because I want to try to get a good birthday present. What I get out of pouring into the relationship is a better relationship, it intensifies the quality of the relationship I already have.”
This is exactly what we want to do with the God.
“It’s not like I’m looking for the Lord to give me some big reward or an A + on a report card. I want the intimacy of a beautiful relationship that I’ve poured my life into and I will have that as I seek to see him now.”
The more we get to know God, the more we are able to appreciate Him for who He is. Depth of relationship opens the door for us to appreciate what He is offering to us; the more we pour into God the more our capacity to experience Him grows.
“Are we all going to be blessed and happy in heaven? Yes, we are, but just like we have different capacities here on Earth, I think we’ll have different capacities in heaven. Some people have a capacity that in some way will be greater than other people’s capacities. However, no one will be unhappy with where they are.”
On earth we have a capacity to know the Lord on a deeper level. Elyse says it will be the same way in heaven.
“The really wonderful news is it’s not like we have just six months or five years or even fifteen years to try to get our capacities bigger and broader. We have eternity to walk with him. Even in heaven, everyone is going to be on a journey walking into deeper relationship with him, all of us eternally happy.”
