Highlight: Pursuing our dreams with God

How can we begin to pursue the work that God has prepared for us to do? According to Dan Miller, pursuing the work that we are called to starts from asking the right questions.

“What are your skills and abilities? What are your personality traits? How do you relate best to other people? We want to embrace things we know about ourselves, not ignore them.”

In addition to assessing our individual skills, abilities and personal tendencies, you need to consider your dreams and passions. What are those things, that when you’re doing them, you really come alive?

Even if those things seem unrealistic or impractical, they are usually the best starting places to develop what your next season of work is going to be.”

God created you to fulfill a specific work for His kingdom. Often we just need to ask Him for guidance on what direction He intends for us to go.

“85% of the process of having the confidence and proper direction moving into a career comes from looking inward, looking at what God has already told us.”

It’s not just about just finding a job; it’s more about embracing our God-given talents.

“You need to start with what it is you know about yourself so you can go out into the workplace with confidence.”

“Then you make yourself an attractive candidate and certainly raise yourself on the economic scale dramatically.”

Doing work that you love and leaves you feeling fulfilled isn’t an unattainable myth.

“We almost assume that it would be too good to be true to do what I really enjoy in my work. That work is somehow meant to be something we really disdain. We let it creep into our vocabulary, ‘Thank God it’s Friday!’ or ‘Oh no, it’s Monday.’

“There’s nothing in Scripture; nothing about the teaching about living a Christian life that would embrace that at all. We should be joyful; we should be great examples in what we do. The only way that’s going to work well is if we are using the talents that really are our strongest.”
