What surprises do you have for mom this weekend? Hopefully a few special things because mom’s love to hear words of affection and gratitude from their children. So, this weekend on the Dr. Linda Mintle show, we are giving messages to mom. We asked several people, what message for mom would you like to send? I hope you can listen and begin to think of a special message you want to give your mom as well.

To help celebrate this special day, we discussed lots of gift ideas. Here are a few of the worst gifts ever. Make sure these are not on your list—kitchen spoons, pots and pans, cleaning supplies, a flashlight, blender, an iron…but the number one worst gift ever is doing nothing for your mom. As one mom put it,

“I’ll take anything as long as they put some thought into it.”

Moms aren’t picky. They just want to be appreciated!

So here are a few better ideas: A day off from housework, hugs, kisses, time to herself, a day to sleep in, breakfast in bed, a day at the spa…OK you get the idea. As you think about a gift and begin to compose your message for mom, consider Proverbs 31:35-30. Does this fit your mom, or do parts of this sound like her?

Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” …

Moms are one of the most important people in your life. They set the stage for future relationships, provide a sense of security and well-being, are the bearers of life, a source of honor, love and nurture.

This Mother’s Day, compose a special message for your mom. Tell her what she means to you now because there will be a day when she is no longer with you. While you have her, take the time out of your busy life to honor her this one day a year. Honor your mom and God will honor you.

Happy Mother’s Day!
