Ben Peterson dreamed for all of his young life about serving his country in the military. After joining up at only seventeen and serving his deployment as a chaplain’s assistant, he returned to civilian life with a heart to reach other service members.

He started Engage Your Destiny – a platform for veterans to tell the story of their service and how it shaped their life. Ben also connects one on one with these folks, sharing the hope of Jesus when he has the chance and pursuing discipleship.

Ben explains how telling these stories is making such a powerful difference.

“Each story is a different experience of what someone’s gone through. It could be a Gold Star mother or father who’s lost a son a combat. I’ve had a couple of those now. It could be someone who served thirty years, got a medical discharge, never deployed, and now they’re just riddled with survivor’s guilt.”

“And then there are the war stories. The guys that were in it, and they lost buddies in real combat, and are dealing with serious P.T.S.D.”

He digs deeper into the heart of the stories.

“I’m working to raise up more financial support, more volunteers to help me connect with these folks. I connected with a homeless veteran yesterday, and I found him some resources.  I have a call on Saturday with a blue star father who lost a son in Afghanistan, and he wants his son’s story to live on.”

“You know, each one of these situations is so different, but each person has a pin point – something in their story that they want to tell.”
