Millennials have been dubbed the churches lost generation. If Millennials do try church, most of them don’t continue to attend, but why?

“What they experience many times is law and not grace. Consequently, they run for the hills because they don’t know God.”

Church and business strategist David Stark, founder of David Stark Collective, shares how an over emphasis of the law turns many Millennials from the church. This isn’t the message Jesus shared.

“Jesus and the apostles went towards outsiders in a very specific way because the gospel was by far the top priority. Because everything else was temporary and God’s love for everybody is so dramatic.”

Through the power of the Gospel of grace, God has the power to draw people to Himself. However, all the law does in condemn.

David says that churches need to be careful to focus on “thou shalt” instead of “thou shalt not.” Otherwise, they give the impression that God is all about rules and behavior modification, something that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Actions speak louder than words

“Millennials have been marketed too since they were born, which means that words are cheap to them. What matters to them is what they see in lifestyle, in action, in attitude, because they know immediately they can get on the web and find 25 worldviews in 20 minutes.”

For Millennials, it’s not about what they hear, it’s about what they see and experience.

“God is radically in love with these people that are outside our walls, and He really wants us to lead with not just our words, but in how they experience us.”

David believes that Millennials and other age groups will take notice if Christians begin to not only talk like Christ, but mirror Him in their actions and behavior as well.
