Highlight : The Father you've always dreamed of

“Jesus presents God as the dad of our dreams.”

Sometimes we view God as an angry, ranting father-figure, with Jesus as the meek son who steps in to settle things between us. But the truth is, God wants an intimate, honest, loving relationship with us. He has a father’s heart for us.

Many of us have a skewed view of God because of the relationship we have with our earthly father. Will Davis Jr. addresses this in his book, .

“Your relationship with God will parallel your relationship with your dad until you re-think God. Most atheists, most agnostics – ask them their dad story. In most cases they’re brutal. Jesus wanted to re-present God as the world’s greatest father. He had this wonderful view of God that He got from prayer.

None of us have a perfect earthly dad, but in the worst cases, our absent or abusive fathers can forever affect how we relate to the God of the Bible. Will has counseled men and women of every occupation who wrestle with this picture of God.

“I’ve had pastors of churches say ‘I can’t think of God as my father, because ‘father’ makes me want to throw up.Look at the tender, loving, compassionate, justice-doing, hypocrite-fighting defender of truth… that’s who God wants to be as your Father.”

If we’re going to walk closely with God, we need to address the baggage we have that is preventing us from seeing Him as loving.

“He’s not going to grow old, He’s not going to abandon you, He’s not going to walk out on you, He’s not going to choose a family down the street that He likes better. He’s the God, the Father, the eternal. You get that, you’re safe.”
