Highlight: The importance of gut health

Do you have a nagging or chronic health issue that you just can’t seem to resolve? Do you have mysterious migraines or an inability to focus at times?

Dr. Troy Spurrill of the Synapse Center for Health and Healing says that what many people don’t realize is that some of the most common health complications are often linked to the health of our digestive system, called our gut.

“Almost anything can be a result of gut health, including anxiety, depression, fatigue, lethargy, feeling of fogginess. When you wake up and you feel like Homer Simpson, that can be a gut issue too.”

Dr. Troy lists other issues that can result from poor gut health:

•  Hormone imbalance
•  Fibromyalgia
•  Lack of motivation

Even our muscles can be adversely affected by poor gut health.

“If you are prone to straining muscles, especially hip-flexors or hamstrings that can be a gut issue.”

In addition, inflammation in the digestive tract can cause serious adrenal stress.

“Once you have adrenal stress you crave salt and sugar and then we start down a whole pathway of problems. Heart disease, obesity, diabetes, all can be linked back in some degree to gut health.”

The top ten degenerative diseases that plague Americans can all be linked back to poor gut health. Eating healthy is essential to maintain good gut health. If we don’t eat well, we are setting ourselves up for health issues down the road.

Our digestive system plays a pivotal role is fighting off cancer as well. When our immune system is compromised due to improper diet it doesn’t allow our body to fight off cancer and it can become overwhelmed.

In order to complete the work God has for us on this earth, it is important that we do our part to steward our bodies well and stay healthy.
