Highlight: What is Good Faith?

We all know that being a Christian means you believe in Christ. But what does it mean to be a good faith Christian?

According to Gabe Lyons good faith is an antidote to the bad religion we see all around us. Jesus is the ultimate example of what it means to live out good faith.

“Jesus came and was against this man made version of faith that the Pharisee’s were living out. It was essentially just a bunch of rules. It was a self-important, self-justified way of looking down your nose in other people and putting the weight and burden of rules and regulations on people and telling them if they lived this way then that’s how they could have holiness.”

Good faith is the antithesis of this burdened and regulated religion.

“Good faith is saying what we believe really matters. Our theology matters; it’s the most important thing in helping determine how we’re going to live.”

The purpose of good faith is what separates it from the striving version of faith that the Pharisees lived out.

“The purpose of that truth is to love God and to love our neighbor. So it actually isn’t insulated, it’s not fortifying itself against the broader culture, and saying, hey you can get into this, this is our space, but it’s saying no this is for my neighbor, this is faith that’s meant to stir up good works.”

Gabe refers to Hebrews 10:24 as a guiding scripture for living with good faith.

My faith calls me to do good works and to help you as my friend know how to live your life to engage these difficult conversations.”

Ultimately, good faith boils down to believing the best about other people, even when your faith collides with their faith.

“It’s faith that’s relying on the goodness of God and His work in the world through us to actually be what’s going to renew this world and renew people’s lives and their relationship.”
