June 20…

The longest day of 2016 and the “official” start to summer! For many of us in the Upper Midwest this means, Lord willing, a week or two of vacation to our favorite family stop; trips to the cabin up north (wherever that is?!) and family reunions. But for many others this season is just another reminder that life can be hard and that it is often not fair.

A few weeks back a friend of mine asked me why I was working from home that day, to which I replied “my sprinkling system at our house is broken and the repairman is on his way.”   My friend replied, ‘wow, that’s a first-world problem!‘ And you know what, he was right!  I am blessed with more than I deserve and I often forget that inconveniences are not problems, they are just that – an inconvenience.

Right now I’m thinking of a friend of mine who is going through a difficult season of divorce and on top of that extreme alienation from his children; life isn’t fair. I also know of family members working two or more jobs just to make ends meet or the lady whose husband passed away after only learning of his diagnosis two weeks earlier. Life is not fair and it is not easy for most.

If you are enjoying a season of blessing, do that – enjoy it!  Thank God for His provision and be generous to those around you.

If this is a difficult season for you, be patient – Lord willing, it will pass soon.

Last week a gentleman in his fifties called and shared his story; married for 20+ years, his wife decided that she had hit the bottom and was moving on. Our caller was distraught and felt hopeless.  After a time of sharing, we prayed together and I asked God to help him through this difficult season.  Looking back on his situation I am reminded of 1 Peter 1:3-6,

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!  In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a ‘living hope’ through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.  This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.  In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.”

Thanks for your continued support of Faith Radio!  Every day we are blessed and privileged to share the “living hope” found only in Jesus Christ!  Your generosity this summer keeps God’s word going forth 24 hours a day; thank you!
