Highlight: Defending the rights of the unborn

How can we best accomplish the mission to uphold the rights of the unborn? In our increasingly secular culture, how can Christians defend the pro-life stance to those who do not understand the Word of God? Bruce Hausknecht says that the answer to that begins with standing strong in God’s Word.

“As Christians we all know that God knows us from the minute we were conceived. He mentions to Jeremiah that He knew you from the womb. In Psalm 139. ‘I formed you in your inward parts before there was even your first day on Earth’.”

“As Christians we know that God considers life from the instant of conception. The problem is translating that into public policy.”

Opportunities to pass a human life amendment, one that clarifies the a fetus is a baby, in Congress haven’t been successful. This has molded our culture into its current standing.

“So now we’re left with a society that’s probably even less prone to creating the majorities needed to protect life in that way.”

This makes it even more important for Christians to speak up, and strive to influence the moral leanings of our culture.

Christians have to continue to be vocal, continue to run for office, and articulate the principles that are set forth as truth throughout the ages in the Word of God. And do so in a way that’s winsome to a secular culture who doesn’t understand the Word of God, or why they should take anything you say from the Bible as truth.”

As citizens of a Heavenly Kingdom how can we make a difference in upholding the value of life and the rights of all? Bruce presents hope to those who want to make a difference.

“I would just offer encouragement not to give up. Every time Congress or a state legislature makes a law, there is some moral component to it and so it makes a difference who passes those laws and whose morality is reflected in the law.”

“We cannot simply hand over the reins of civil government to people who are actively in rebellion against God. There’s a fine line to do that in our culture and be winsome about doing it, but that is our duty as Christ followers and as people who want to see the Gospel go forward.  We have to defend life and do it in a way that convinces our fellow citizens who maybe don’t even believe in God.”

When Christians hold firm in their faith and trust in God with important issues such as abortion, real change can occur.
