He was a founding member of one of the most successful metal bands in the world, yet Brian Head Welch was in big trouble.

His addiction to drugs had a grip on him, and, no matter what he did or how hard he tried, he couldn’t get free. Brian explains how God used some Christian business partners to show Him the freedom offered in Christ.

“For some reason I was always good with money – because I was so poor before KoRn, and I never wanted to be broke again. And so I was doing real estate while I was a drug addict. My partners in real estate were Christians, and they just weren’t what I thought Christians were. They were just fun and happy guys with a great family. They invited me to go to church, and I ended up going and I just got touched by God’s love at church.”

“I raised my hand to receive Christ – and I was high on drugs in church at the time!”

God will reach into Brian’s life and change everything. The church offered no expectation of being cleaned up, put together, or even sober in order to share the love of Jesus.

“The pastor said you come to God as you are. You don’t clean yourself up ever to come to God. You come to God dirty and messy, and He will do the work in you, and don’t be afraid of the grossest stuff. And he just told it like it was.”

“I thought I was going to get struck by lightning for being in church on drugs you know? But the pastor said you go to church, you read your Bible, you hang out with other Christians to grow in your faith – and you will change. I decided I’m going to do those things, and if he’s wrong, he’s wrong, and I’ll try to go to a rehab or something. That is when I just decided to do it, and I did everything he said, and, little by little, I ended up getting rid of all the drugs, and I threw them away. I even took pictures of myself throwing them away and posted them in my first book! And I was free.
