What does it mean to have a life of adventure? On the Monday edition of Live the Promise Susie broadcasts from Fargo. Listen as she talks with Dr. Dick Foth about what it means to have abundant, adventurous life in Christ.

Susie and Dick unpack principles from his book, co-authored with pastor Mark Batterson, .

“Being present in the moment is the place you want to be.” Dick says he never thought he’d live this long, but he doesn’t mind. “There are things at 73 that, as wise as I thought I was at 52, I didn’t know. There are experiences I’ve had in the last 20 years that have exponentially improved my life.”

• Trusting God is an adventure.

• Adventure doesn’t happen by accident.

“Adventure is stepping out into a new place with some possibility of risk. It depends on personality.” Dick uses himself and his wife as an example. Ruth sees an outing with a grandchild as an adventure, while Dick would be more drawn to the idea of travel or large-scale experiences. The concept starts with us. “The idea of adventure starts between our ears. If we see people as threats, you’ll be guarded. If you see them as gifts, every day is Christmas!”

• Giving can be an adventure!

“I don’t know any generous person who’s not grateful. When you give, it gives opportunity for the Lord and for others to not only replace that but overwhelm it.”

• Experiences are the currency of a life well-lived.

• We’re responsible for inputs, not outcomes. We can’t force others to follow Christ but we can love them as He does.

“I spent 35 years of my life trying to be the Holy Spirit. That’s why I’m bald now.”
