What does it mean to awaken to God? On this edition of Live the Promise Susie speaks with author and speaker Gerard Long about intimacy with God.

“So often we get stuck in the here and now – God wants to take us to a new level of understanding. He wants us to start seeing things from a different perspective. He wants every part of us – every room in our house, if you like.”

Gerard likens the sleepy Christian life to “sitting on dynamite.” If we only knew the power God has given us access to, we would turn the world upside down.

Gerard shares some things to reflect on as we awaken to God’s call:

• We need to realize that Jesus is with us. With His direction we can reach out to those who need to experience the love of God.

• If we ask God to bring “divine appointments” across our path, He will.

• Christians should be intentional about bringing their kingdom influence to every circumstance they enter.

• The Christian life is a journey of asking yourself hard questions. Gerard lists a few: Do I really want more of Jesus? Am I putting anything before God in my life? Am I ready to receive direction from God regardless of what it is?

• Suffering is used to define us, if we truly belong to God.

Gerard offers these thoughts – be open.

“I had no vision of moving to American in 1980… but when it comes to the things that God asks us to do, He gives us the grace to do it. As we move along with Him, we find that our desires change – what God wants us to do, we want to do as well! Don’t have any barrier to what God wants to do in your life.”
