It exerts significant control over our body. It’s there with us, wherever we go. It’s a friend of Adam. And when we aren’t in sync, we feel unstable.

Sounds a lot like God and our relationship with Him, doesn’t it?

Actually, I’m talking about the thyroid. It’s a small, butterfly-shaped gland located in the base of the neck just below the Adam’s apple. This gland is responsible for producing hormones that regulate our metabolism, as well as other body organs.

Research suggests that approximately 30 million Americans, both men and women, may be affected by thyroid disorders – with half of these cases currently undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Some of the most common thyroid conditions include hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, postpartum thyroiditis, and thyroid cancer.

Other common thyroid conditions are a part of the more than 100 chronic autoimmune conditions. This includes Hashitmoto’s thyroiditis and Graves’ disease. Research indicates that nearly 50 million Americans are living with an autoimmune condition, and more than 75 percent of them are women.

These statistics sound staggering, but there is hope and healing for the seesaw that comes with hormonal health. The answer? Our Stabilizer is the light for our path (Psalm 119:105). He guides us through the ups and downs of this life. His word and His promises are our stabilizer, which is bigger than any statistic.

The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe. Proverbs 18:10

But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his.” 2 Timothy 2:19a

Our health and our lives are constantly held in His hands. Sometimes God takes away a health condition, sometimes He gives us great doctors and resources, and sometimes all the above.

No matter what we face, and as long as we’re receptive, God will help us find stability on the seesaws of life. That is a blessing.
