When your heart feels dry, how can you reconnect with God? Listen as Susie and Michael Yankoski look at Christian disciplines that can re-ignite your faith.

Michael shares how God changed his own perspective and pace of life. “We think if our life is full, we’ll find that satisfaction we’re always looking for. If Moses had been running by, would he have been able to see the burning bush? Think of all Moses was able to do because he was willing to stop and see.” God calls us to stop and see the ways He’s moving in our midst as well.

Michael has a heart for homeless people and traveled and spoke around the world to advocate for them. During his months of travel, he became disillusioned by what he called the “Christian carnival” and the consumer mindset of the church. He decided to wrestle with what following Jesus actually looked like.

The book that resulted,  , is meant to be a “depth-dive” of spiritual practices. Susie and Michael explore

• The incident on a plane that led Michael to re-examine how he practiced his faith (click the highlight to hear more).

• Christian consumerism.

• The distinction between spiritual practices and works-based salvation. “Spiritual practices are not a way to make God love us or even like us. Spiritual practices are a way of living in response to who God is and what He’s already done in our life.”

• Contemplative prayer – a practice that Michael says calls for careful definition of terms. Michael points to the Greek word for “contemplative” which can mean to pause and reflect. When we pause and listen to God instead of talking at Him, our perspective changes and He is the driving force of the conversation.

• How spiritual practices wake us from our “cultivated indifference.”
