“Andy, you have a massive tumor that has broken through the wall of your colon. It’s cancer. It’s serious. Get in here now.”

With those words, pastor Andy McQuitty found himself on a journey that no one would want to travel – yet God proved Himself to be faithful and ever-present. Listen as Andy joins guest host Bill Arnold to share his story, found in the book .

“I’d had a colonoscopy two years before that was completely clean, but I noticed that I could hardly lift my legs. I knew I wasn’t out of shape… the doctor told me I was losing blood somewhere.” After a few tests, the doctor called Andy with the news.

“Whenever you’re shocked by a life-ending situation, you have to go back and review. What do we believe? As we do that, God deepens the confidence that He’s in it.” Andy likens suffering to hot water – it affects everyone differently. “Hot water has one effect on an egg and another on a potato – it makes one hard and the other soft.”

Andy and Bill explore

• The “why me?” question.

“God is not telling other people’s story in my life. He is the author of a great story in my life, in your life, it’s utterly unique.”

• How to lament.

“Lament is not only something God tolerates in His children, it’s something He encourages.”

• How to respond to the question “How are you doing?” Andy points out that this may not always be the right question if you’re not ready for a real answer. Instead, share that you’re praying for them if you can say it honestly. Andy can testify to this. “That never ceased to encourage me.”

• How God used a pager to encourage Andy, his wife, and the other cancer patients he met during treatment.

• Prayer in the valley and how it’s different from prayer on the mountain top.

• What it means to wait strategically.
