The Christian life is one filled with joy, challenge, and risk. On the Thursday edition of Live the Promise social commentator Owen Strachan joins Susie to share his views on the risk-filled life of the Christian.

Why are we afraid to risk? Owen says we’re focused on the wrong things.

“We’re starting from a place of plentitude. We have God. So we don’t have to scrape and claw our way to anything else. We have God so we have everything. We have the greatest treasure in this world and that frees us up to be people who are not stressed and frenzied.”

Owen points to cultural shifts and upheavals in our society, including the case in front of the Supreme Court on the legitimacy of same-sex marriage. Regardless of the outcome, we have constant reasons for joy because the God of the universe in control.

Owen and Susie explore:

• Why our perspective is so important.

• The importance of training and prepping ourselves for following Jesus.

“Jesus said to count the cost… which means there is a cost. We don’t need to have anybody know our name. We don’t need to have somebody tell us that we’re good to go but [we] devote ourselves to Jesus by the power of grace and follow Him wherever He takes us.”

• What we can learn from Ruth about walking by faith.

“Ruth does the next thing she knows to do. She takes tremendous risk in order to follow God and Yahweh blesses her.”

• The promises of God grounded in the character of God. God has fundamentally made a promise to redeem a people for Himself. God is still fulfilling that promise. God is going to see us all the way through our wilderness.

• What we can learn from Navy SEALs about endurance.
