Many in the church are living sleepy lives – it’s time to wake up!
Jeff Kinley has written a new book, , and he says we can learn to read the signs of the times and prepare for Christ’s return.
“If the Holy Spirit was withdrawn from church today, ninety-five percent of what we do would go on and no one would know the difference. If the Holy Spirit had been withdrawn from the New Testament church, ninety-five percent of what they did would stop and everybody would know the difference.” – A.W. Tozer
The church in America has been lulled to sleep. We have become accustomed to not seeing the manifold presence of God in our churches anymore and we accept it. It’s time to wake up.
Many of the churches that God addresses in the book of Revelation were in the same place that American churches are in now.
“The churches in Revelation had lots of activity, lots of busyness, things were going on at the church, but there was no life. There was the imitation of life, but there wasn’t real life.”
Like the churches in Revelation, many of the churches of America lack the life of the Holy Spirit.
“We go to church and we assume God is there, but how do we know?”
One way to tell if the Holy Spirit is alive in a church is to see if the church and its members actually participate in repentance.
A strong church body recognizes that they need to constantly return to the original passion for Jesus Christ they had in the past.
“Have you ever been more fervent in your faith? Have you ever had a more passionate love for Christ? Have you ever more eagerly awaited His return?”
These are the questions every Christian and congregation should be asking themselves on a regular basis. If the answer is yes, you may have fallen victim to the epidemic of spiritual drowsiness.
“If we wonder why we’re not having more influence in our world, it could be that we’re not awake according to Christ’s definition.”
