“When each of us look back on all the turns and folds that God has allowed in our lives, I don’t think it looks like a series of folded over mistakes and do overs that have shaped our lives. Instead I think we will conclude in the end that maybe we are all like human origami and the more creases we have the better” – .

Many people think that God could never use them because they are too messed up and broken. Lawyer, professor and advocate for children’s justice Bob Goff shares how God can use every crease in our lives and turn it into a beautiful work of human origami.

“We count ourselves out. We say we’ve tagged out because we messed up in a relationship, marriage or in a business deal…then somehow we whisper all of these names at ourselves and sometimes we shout them at ourselves under our breath.”

God can use you to spread His love in the world.

We have warped perceptions of ourselves that prevent us from seeing who God created us to be. Even in times when we are most broken and messed up – we are still loved.

“Do you know what Jesus calls us when we’ve messed up the worst? He leans over her shoulders and he calls us beloved.

He expresses the importance of throwing away the messages that represent junk mail in our lives.

“One of the problems we’re having in some of our faith communities is that people are reading the junk mail; you don’t need to do that! If it doesn’t say ‘beloved’, it isn’t from Jesus. You are listening to someone else.”

As beloved we are called to love others and do difficult things.

“I want to be a person that just loves; I want to just do my part which is just loving people.”

Loving others courageously doesn’t mean being frivolous or a daredevil. We need to be faithful, be trustworthy, be available – that is courageous love.

“I want to do things that would be impossible without my faith to accomplish.”
