We’ve all been there in the midst of a dark valley of despair. We cry out to God for something, anything, even one word from him. When God speaks to us it is rarely with an audible voice. Often he speaks to us through the Holy Spirit or through another person in our lives. On this edition of Live the Promise, Susie and Dr. Kenneth Ulmer discuss how God speaks to us.

“There are times in our lives when we need a word.”

There is no guarantee how God will speak to us but what is guaranteed is that when God speaks we benefit.

“When God speaks a word to us he speaks in a way that brings us strength that empowers us to go to the next level to go the next step.”

Sometimes we can’t even make the next step because we don’t know what it is. Even then God is there.

“God speaks into my spirit, mind, and heart and says yes, you are coming through this.”

God’s word to us is sometimes most powerful when it comes to us in the midst of chaos and confusion. When our hearts seem so far away from peace and peace washes over us anyway we know God is the source.

As Christians we all want to see God. We long to feel his presence in our lives and we beg God to reveal himself to us. However, Kenneth Ulmer suggests that we might be focusing on the wrong thing.

“We must learn that there is something more important, something greater than seeing God, it is to be reminded that God sees us.”

Instead of trying to always feel God’s presence in our lives, it is imperative to remind ourselves that God is always with us even when we don’t see him or feel him. He never leaves us, even when we feel like he isn’t there.
