We can overcome fear in every circumstance – including in the face of persecution. YWAM’s Dan Baumann shares how God met him in a powerful way while he was imprisoned during a trip in Iran.

“Without any explanation, we were imprisoned in Iran. While we were in there, they began to question me about various things in my life. The informal charge was that I was a spy for the U.S. government and [imprisoned] for sharing Jesus. When I heard the door click, it was finally real. I was in a little cell with a toilet and a sink and a dirt floor… and there I was. Fear began to grip my heart like never before. My nerves had taken over.”

In Dan’s book, , he shares what he learned – God doesn’t leave us, even in moments of fear.

He considered suicide at one point, about two weeks into his imprisonment, but God had not abandoned him. “I didn’t think anyone knew I was there.” Even in the darkness, people were praying and interceding for his release. In a miraculous turn of events, Dan was freed and has since returned to the Middle East several times.

Dan and Susie explore:

• Training yourself to meditate on the goodness of God.

• What happened when Dan was prompted to share the gospel in front of an Iranian judge.

• How to see our weakness as an opportunity to draw close to God.

• How Dan’s own sister also ended up in a prison in Nepal for sharing her faith.

• How Dan prays for America.

“I pray that hunger for Jesus would be borne from a revelation of how good God is. He wants to overwhelm our hearts so much so that in our joy, we’ll choose Him even if we have to give things up, even if we have to face hard circumstances.”
